The Dawn Raid's of the 1970's

In literacy this week we have been learning about the dawn raid's this is what I have learnt. In the early 50's, 60's, and 70's, NZ needed a labour force to work. In mid 1970's the market crashed and jobs were lost. New Zealander's complained that jobs were taken by immigrants. The New Zealand government made a law that all over stayers had to leave NZ. So the police raided homes in the early hours of the morning and this was known as The Dawn Raids. Pasifika families were rounded up and deported back to their homeland. The Polynesian Panthers became the voice that taught Pasifika people about their rights.
